After a two-hour meeting of the House leadership in the speaker’s conference room on Tuesday, Palacios still looked unhappy as he told reporters that Cabrera did not want him to step down.
According to Cabrera, R-Saipan, the other members of the leadership explained they were “overwhelmed” by a lot of other pressing issues and tied up with a series of public hearings, and that was why they seemed not to have paid enough attention to the bill Palacios introduced most recently.
“It was a productive meeting,” Palacios said, adding that he emphasized to the other leadership members that they have to work together and respect each other.
Palacios, R-Saipan, reminded his colleagues that when he accepted the chairmanship of House Committee on Natural Resources, he made a commitment to work with them.
He said he always attended public hearings pertaining to legislation supported by the leadership.
Pledging to work together, the House leadership agreed to have a regular meeting, possibly every Tuesday.
Palacios’ House Bill 17-171, which seeks to reduce the fine for littering from $200 to $25, is still in committee.
