Yap State Legislature holds session

The Legislature has entertained a long list of communications of which eight were from the governor, two from the other branches of the state of Yap government, one under communications from Heads of departments, five from the national government and two under messages from the other State Governments.

The eight communications that the Legislature received from the governor and assigned to appropriate committees for further investigation include:

Gov. Comm. No. 8-56. A letter from the governor regarding an Asian Development Bank Consultations Mission Visit to Yap from May 11-15, 2011 headed by Sally Pederson, public management specialist to review FSM’s Country Operations Business Plan with ADB.

Gov. Comm. No. 8-57. A letter from the governor regarding the FSM Unified Revenue Authority Informational meeting held in the Yap Cap conference room on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 10 a.m.

Gov. Comm. No. 8-58. A letter from the governor regarding the Law Day Committee seeking permission from the state leadership for the Supreme Court of the FSM to commemorate its 31st anniversary on July 12, 2011 in Yap.

Gov. Comm. No. 8-59. Transmitting from the governor Bill No. 8-31, Draft 2 as Yap State Law No. 8-5, without his signature.

Gov. Comm. No. 8-60. A letter from the governor submitting Tropical Storm Songda’s Preliminary Assessment Report.

Gov. Comm. No. 8-61. A letter from the governor regarding proposed meeting with visiting FSM Compact Review Committee.

Gov. Comm. No. 8-62. A letter from the governor regarding nomination of director of the Office of Administration Services.

Gov. Comm. No. 8-63. A letter from the governor sharing with the state leadership information and planning purposes a copy of the enclosed presidential communication concerning two back-to-back events to take place late next month in Palikir with the FSM national government.

There were three resolutions introduced:

Resolution No. 8-27, confirming Maria Laaw as director of the Office of Administrative Services. Introduced by John E. Mooteb by request and assigned to the Committee on Finance.

Resolution No. 8-28, proposing an amendment to Article X, Section 4 of the Constitution of the State of Yap to be submitted to the electorate for approval. Introduced by Clement Mulalap and assigned to the Committee on Government, Health and Welfare.

Resolution No. 8-29, requesting the Federated States of Micronesia Petroleum Corporation to consider all exploration in the FSM region and territory. Introduced by Charles Chieng and assigned to the Committee on Resources, Education and Development.

The Legislature also passed a resolution, which the Committee on Government, Health and Welfare earlier recommended for adoption through Standing Committee Report No. 8-18.

Resolution No. 8-19 is a resolution approving the salary of Michael Nigrey, the attorney general of the state of Yap, to be higher than the salary of the lt. governor. The Legislature passed this particular resolution with 8 of the members in favor, 1 excused and 1 abstention.
