A hundred years’ worth of development in basketball and its growing popularity effectively increased the use of words, terms, fundamentals, technique and tactics, and phrases describing the game.
Also among those improved are plays and pattern movements, maneuvers, situation and positions, and drills and skills.
Basketball is played in over 200 countries. It has become an international phenomenon with national glossaries, the number of which is only slightly smaller than the list of nations practicing the game.
Quick facts: Tom Lopes is the executive director of the Collegiate Basketball Officials Association. He is a Division 1 collegiate basketball official and has officiated in 20 consecutive NCAA tournaments, including three Final Four appearances. Lopes was selected as the ‘Naismith Official of the Year’ in 1995. He is also a clinician for the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials, Inc.
