Edmark Mendoza scored 19 and Noel David added 15 to hand the Archers a 75-71 win in the 4th Miller Lite Invitational Basketball Tournament at Gualo Rai on Saturday.
Getting fouled on wasn’t so bad for David and Larry Sharry, who each shot two free throws to secure the game.
Bernardo, struggling for possession, settled for four points in the final quarter. Bart Demapan fouled out with five minutes to go and Ferdie Tobias racked up four personal fouls at the second half.
The Archers pulled away, 25-18 in the first quarter but lost momentum and fell behind one point by the third quarter. Demapan easily dodged Sharry for a layup but couldn’t get hold of David in the defense.
Mendoza followed with an open jumper but missed, leaving Sharry Jun Pantaleon scrambling for the ball.
Abuy squeezed in eight points, Gil Miranda and Sharry scored seven each, and Rommel Usi added nine.
Bernardo and Demapan tied at 22 points apiece while Pantaleon earned 13.
