Hopwood honors Troops to Teachers

“The staff, management, students, and parents are truly proud of our TTT for their dedication and commitment to helping our students in the special education program the past years and this year as well,” he said.

He said the program’s helpfulness in the learning process is evident.

There are seven members of the program at Hopwood, and they include Barcinas.

They are full-time Public School System employees and active Reservists, or full-time Northern Marianas College students working towards obtaining their BA degree in education

They provide support to the school during its many events and activities, Barcinas said.

He said the administration and the commissioner of education continue to support the program members in their endeavor to receive their degrees and become full-fledged classroom teachers.

“It is understood what they have to endure while going to drills once a weekend, and two weeks in a year training either on island or off-island. The skills that they learn end up being used on campus,” Barcinas said.

The program members work  hard to become successful both in their civilian job and military life, he added.

The opportunity the provides is rare, he said.

“I hope they will fulfill their dreams of one day becoming a teacher to make a difference in their students’ lives,” he added

Hopwood expressed its appreciation to the troops during Support our Troops Week on May 16-20.

The school’s Youth Advisory Panel members planned all the activities for the weeklong activities that were similar to the Teacher Appreciation Week celebration.

The students offered goodies, ribbons, mwars, leis, candies, praise letters and poster cards to the servicemembers.

Last Friday, the TTT members had lunch with the leadership team of the Public School System in honor and appreciation of what they had done  for their country and  people.
