Hopwood’s adopt-a-beach program gives students a positive outlook

“That’s the kind of attitude we need. They care so much for our environment,” he told Variety.

The cleanup is part of the school’s adopt-a-beach program in coordination with the Division of Environmental Quality.

Barcinas said the cleanup started at 8:30 a.m. and ended at 11 a.m. It covered Sugar Dock to the beach area at the back of Hopwood.

Team F with 24 students had the most attendance and was given an incentive of an extra lunch break.

The cleanup campaign was administered by science teachers Sharlene Crisostomo, Tony Yarobwemal,  Donald Mendiola and Vic Borja with the support of Joe Kaipat of the Division of Environmental Quality

Barcinas said the cleanup was also part of  Student Council activities and part of their lessons in science and social studies.

The students truly care about their environment and working together with DEQ staff, he added.

“We were able to complete cleaning the beach area with positive feelings of fun cleaning. In the end, the students were super happy for having to do this activity as part of the Student Council’s yearly contributions to the school and community,” he said.
