Seventeen senior citizens with the Aging Center joined the event yesterday, according to Walter Manglona, the center program director.
They were assigned to different government agencies and private companies.
Meryalen Conrad took over the post of Marianas Variety president Laila Y. Boyer and talked with the newspaper’s personnel.
“I found it very interesting, how a newspaper is published,” she said.
The MV employees, she added in jest, deserve a salary of $20 per hour.
Conrad said she would share what she learned at the newspaper with the other congregates of the Aging Center.
Teresita Sorroza took over as governor; Christiana Michael, lt. governor; Teddy Guiano, vice speaker; Pacita Angles, House floor leader; Sitae Terry, House member; Emerenciana Reyes, Office of the Vocational Rehabilitation director; Siyau Muna, chief justice; Manuel Mesa, Commonwealth Port Authority executive director; Rosario Ibanez, Public Health secretary; Benita Cepeda, Marianas Visitors Authority managing director; Rosa Castro, Carolinian Affairs Office director; Moni Hermedes, KSPN news director; Virginia Prado, Community and Cultural Affairs secretary; and Felisa Baza, mayor of Saipan.
Baza said she learned about the budget constraints at the mayor’s office.
The office, she added, offers a lot of community services and is “responsible to the human beings” on island.
“The mayor of Saipan is like the father of the island. He is responsible for the needs of the community,” she said.
Baza arrived at the mayor’s office at past 9 a.m. and was given a tour by Mayor Donald G. Flores.
“She will know everything about the operation of the mayor’s office,” Flores said.
He also discussed with Baza the documents that she would sign and the other functions of the mayor.
The first document she signed was the leave form of one of the mayor’s personnel.
Flores told her that a three-day sick leave application must be accompanied by a physician’s authorization.
Aging Director Rose Mondala said the Manamko’ Takeover Day, which is part of the Older Americans Month’s celebration, gives congregates an opportunity to learn about the functions of government agencies and local businesses.
