Letter to the Editor: Saiguam?

Anyway, I think it’s time we review our political status with our U.S. counterparts. The reunification process will take dollars and sense (cents) to a whole new level in terms of Saipan and Guam combined being a 51st state if that ever happens. It raises issues such as: Who benefits from all this? Are the tourists more likely to visit Guam? Or like Kilili said, “Are we going to be a village of Guam?” And in a funnier note of my ridiculous thinking, is the U.S. willing to add another star to its flag and for us to be able to vote for the nation’s top post?

Geographically, the Marianas archipelago consists of 14 islands and includes the world famous Mariana trench. I believe it is Guam that needs to be reunited with the CNMI and not to be taken as joined in the middle. We can’t be used as an accessory to these types of issues. Let us be careful that this is not a gimmick for Guam trying to up their status.

Before Guam can place Senator Guthertz’s 168-31 bill on the ballot, she must come down and find out if the CNMI is willing. There must be a consensus on both sides so that we know what will be on the table. It is clearly useless to place something on the ballot if no one wants it. Darn, I am thinking casino again.

Again, is reunification really that necessary? In my standpoint everything seems to be in tiptop shape. Don’t need to fix what isn’t broken. Then again, if I would like a reunification, then I like it done geographically and not for political purposes.
