Report: 2010 Liberation Day Committee collected $139K

Its annual report showed that $26,492 was spent on the construction of booths leased for $600 each to 40 vendors.

The report from the committee, which was headed by Jonas Barcinas showed that administrative and operations expenses  totaled $136,252.93 last year.

The actual revenue collection was $139,505.45 after the deduction of $1,226.53 which represented   “bad” checks.

Last year’s Liberation Day Committee was able to earn $3,252.52 cash which is available for this year’s celebration.

The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation, for its part, allotted $45,000 for the Liberation Day event this year.

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, however, has yet to approve the appropriation.

In an interview, Barcinas said the budget for the Liberation Day should be “obligated” so the Saipan mayor’s office will not be asking for funding each year.

Last year’s total revenue of $139,505.45 consisted of $45,000 from the mayor’s office reprogramming of funds; $1,650, donations; $35,750, concession booth fees; $48,042, ticket sales of queen candidates; $3,192.74, booth utilities fee; $4,030, nightly raffle ticket sales; and $3,062.24 balance forwarded from 2009.

Of the total $136,252.93 total administrative operations expenses, $17,405 went to emcees and entertainment; $16,500, raffle prizes; $8,900, sound system; $8,063.40, queen’s commission; $7,841, program, invitation, raffle tickets printing; $7,808, tents; $7,031.25, meal coupons; $5,500, hotel, car rental, per diem and meals; $4,800, portable toilets; $4,200 stage, float decoration fee; $3,520, bingo license; $3,120, candidates and chaperones airfare; $3,000, float prizes; $2,607.58, sash and crowns for queen; $1,947.91, reimbursement; $1,565, security services; $1,475, petty cash; $1,238, t-shirts; $1,172.35, lunch, dinner and refreshments; $878, banner; $596, information booth painting fee; $552.44, supplies; $400, grandstand decoration fee; $383, bouquets; $100, equipment; $87, advertisement; $50, business license; and $20, renewal of corporate certificate.
