Team Rectify is more than a car club

The team has not been visible after that event but it continues to participate in  community-oriented activities.

Club members recently joined the Department of Public Health’s flu vaccine drive both during the information campaign and in facilitating the vaccination.

Team Rectify is more than a car club. It’s also a “family and community-oriented fan club,” according to its vice president Donovan Castro.

“We don’t want to be perceived as being involved in reckless things,” he said.

Team Rectify wants to set a good example for future generations, he said. All club members are licensed drivers, he added.

They also want to help boost the economy of Saipan, in particular, and the CNMI in general.

“We are the future leaders of the CNMI,” Castro said.

Although, some of the members are tied up with their studies, they still find time to gather and discuss future programs “because we want to give back to the community,” he added.

Among their plans is a cleanup campaign that targets the island’s pavilions.

The team members will coordinate with the Division of Parks and Recreation so they could adopt a pavilion not being maintained by any other civic or community group.

Castro said they also want to install lights at the newly constructed pavilion in Sugar Dock.

Their more ambitious project aims to bring in more tourists by holding car shows and organizing drag races.

Although these are still on the drawing board, Team Rectify believes that the projects are very feasible.

“We have  lots of vacant warehouses here that we can use for a car show,” Castro said, adding that the island has many car enthusiasts.

Right planning, initiative and determination are needed to achieve goals, and these are what the club has, he added.

Castro is hoping that the Legislature will consider legalizing drag racing by designating a place for this activity.

This will eradicate illegal drag races and encourage the participation of enthusiasts from neighboring islands, including Japan, and former CNMI residents now in the states, he said.

The other members of the club are Meco Sablan,  Carson Tarkong, Macgyver Suda, Jayjay Tudela, Jon Igitol and Swanson Borja.
