MHS Aeronautical Dolphins visit airport anew

The reason for this unusual time slot was due to the extended layover time that was scheduled behind the Delta 757 12:30 a.m. flight. Thus, the extra time allowed Leon Mattern enough time to properly   show the aeronautical dolphins the inner and outer components of the Boeing 757 aircraft.

Mattern and his crew took us in the cockpit, the aft galley compartment, the nose landing gear, the metering/steering valve, the main landing gear, the high by-passed turbofan engines, flight controls, avionics compartment and the RAT, which stands for ram air turbine. The ram air turbine supplies electrical power to the aircraft if an emergency occurs in flight.

The trip was late at night but I was proud to get the support of the parents, who realized the educational opportunity that was provided by this rare but valuable aviation experience.

Again I would like to thank the parents of the aeronautical dolphins for their patients and understanding. I would also like to thank CPA representative Ed B. Mendiola, Delta Airlines representative Leon Mattern, and Delta Airlines representative Chris Concepcion.

Mattern was extremely professional, friendly and knowledgeable. He was patient with each student and he presented a friendly and learning environment.

Next, for the aeronautical dolphins, will be a visit by U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. John Doucette. General Doucette is the 36th Wing Commander out of Andersen AFB in Guam. General Doucette is also a veteran F-15 fighter pilot with numerous accomplishments and educational credentials.

The aeronautical dolphins are extremely honored to have such a recognized and distinguished United States Air Force officer to come and share his knowledge with us in our very own classroom. Furthermore, this will be the first time that a military officer within the ranks of general will have graced the campus of Marianas High School.
