She said the recent statements of Jesus Pangelinan and Teddy Guiao, who “took over” as legislators during the Manamko Takeover Day last week were their personal opinion.
At the center, she said, senior citizens are divided on the issue which is so controversial that the council will not make an official stand about it, she added.
Speaking for herself, Sorroza said she supports a Saipan casino to “boost the economy.”
Pangelinan said he was only suggesting an alternative when he spoke about the Saipan casino proposal.
“I was talking about an option. I told the Legislature that if they believe casino can improve our economy then go ahead,” he said.
Hermides Moni, another senior citizen, said a casino can help the ailing economy on Saipan.
But Nicolas Muna believes it will only cause more crimes.
“I am totally against the casino,” he said.
Francisco A. Reyes, former president of the center’s advisory council, said he is also “completely against the casino because I don’t gamble.”
Another senior citizen, who declined to be identified, said he would rather spend his money at a strip club than in a casino.
At the center, the manamko’s regular activities include bingo, billiards and card games.
