GCA vice principal Beth Nunez said the team composed of teachers Alain Nunez, Danielle LaBossiere, Jennifer Douglass, Josh Zwicker, Mark Robles, and Sarah Klockowski will be spending the first two days in Tokyo for orientation and speaking engagements.
Nunez said the six teachers who volunteered helped pay for their trip which was coordinated through the Japanese Assemblies of God.
After a two-day stay in Tokyo, the team will proceed to Tohoku, north of Sendai, an area hit by the tsunami.
Nunez said the team will be distributing much needed supplies, help clean up the area and visit children affected by the tsunami, among other activities.
“They will be staying in a cabin up north that does not have running water or electricity, but the team has expressed the fact that they just want to go and help in any way they can. They are not going for comfort or a vacation; they are going to work and to help the people of Japan!” Nunez said.
They want to thank the people in their church and some of the parents of GCA students who donated food, work equipment and funds for the trip.
“If there is anyone who would like to donate to this cause, they can call the school at 322-3320,” Nunez said.
The team will return to Saipan on April 25.
