Dennis Mendiola
SENATE President Dennis James C. Mendiola has created a Special Committee on CNMI Economic Recovery to identify government activities and policies that may be hindering economic growth in the Commonwealth.
In a memorandum last week, Mendiola named Saipan Sen. Manny Gregory T. Castro as chair of the special committee. The vice chair is Tinian’s Senate Vice President Karl King-Nabors and the members are Rota’s Senate Floor Leader Donald Manglona, and Saipan’s Sen. Corina Magofna.
Mendiola said the special committee “will focus on identifying economic activities and policies that may be hindering economic growth in the CNMI, particularly those that create barriers to investment.”
He tasked the special committee to review existing regulations to determine which should be amended, repealed, or replaced with initiatives that foster a more business-friendly environment.
In carrying out this work, he encouraged the committee to collaborate closely with key economic stakeholders, including the Department of Commerce, the Marianas Visitors Authority, the Commonwealth Economic Development Authority, the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, the Hotel Association of the NMI, and other relevant organizations.
