In addition to its routine international engagement efforts, the Guam-based cutter delivered 20 packages of books to the Yap State Public Library.
Ranging from novels to encyclopedias, the book donation was facilitated by Assateague crewmembers and USCG Sector Guam sub-units. The cutter also provided additional clothing and assorted donations for missionaries serving Faith Baptist Church on Yap.
While in Pohnpei during the 2010 USCG Sea Guardian Exercise, the Assateague also donated light weight clothing, shoes, sports equipment, and toys to the Micronesia Red Cross Society whose executive director Suzie Yoma thanked the USCG for its generous contribution, calling it “the first of its kind.” Yoma assured that the donation would benefit those truly in need.
Operating in the Coast Guard 14th District (Honolulu), the Assateague is assigned search and rescue, maritime law enforcement and national defense missions and has an operating range of exceeding 2,000 nautical miles.
The Assateague’s commanding officer is Lt. Lisa M. Rodman.
