Fifth and sixth graders from the commonwealth’s public and private schools have been invited to create posters relevant to this year’s national Law Week theme: “The Legacy of John Adams, from Boston to Guantanamo.”
Adams was the second president of the United States who during his legal career is remembered for his unselfish representation of those accused in the 1770 Boston Massacre, ably defending them at trial, despite their public unpopularity.
Seventh and eighth graders have been invited to submit essays on the same subject.
Justices, judges and staff will review the submissions and determine the winners.
Cash prizes, a copy of the newly published Judiciary History Book and certificates of recognition will be awarded the winners at an award presentation to be held at the Supreme Court during Law Week, May 2 to 6, a celebration co-sponsored by the NMI Judicial Council, the Northern Marianas Judiciary Historical Society, the CNMI Bar Association, and the commissioner of the Public School System.
All submissions will be picked up from the schools’ respective principals on April 26.
