Despite Palacios’ homer, D-9ers still fall to Masters

The Masters dominated with a five-run fifth inning and won, 13-11 at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Tuesday night.

Masters’ center fielder Justin Reyes went 3-for-6 and bagged an RBI double at the bottom of the fifth. Harland Reyes followed with a run-scoring single, sending Jason Reyes home.

The D-9ers took a 3-0 lead at the top of the first. Short stop Chris Camacho advanced Isaiah Lizama from the scoring position on a double and returned to home plate on Chad Atalig’s single.

Greg Camacho and Harland Reyes scored the Masters’ first two runs on RBI walks at the bottom of the third. Reno Celis replaced Mabel Ngirngemelas one inning later and delivered a two-run double.

Palacios struck the game’s only home run at the top of the ninth while John Acosta finished off with an RBI single.

The Masters — squeezing no runs from the seventh and eighth innings — needed only to hold their lead.
