The disputes have accumulated over the past 10 years, he said. He did not disclose the amount of billings involved.
According to Malae, some customers may have filed the dispute to delay their payment.
He said CUC has already hired two “experts” who will try to resolve the disputes.
“It’s important to deal with these huge disputes,” he added.
Malae said CUC is obliged by regulations to resolve disputes.
He noted that CUC’s previous system allowed for anybody to file a dispute.
CUC chief financial officer Charles H. Warren said some of the disputes have already been settled but they don’t have an exact figure as to how many have been resolved.
He said disputes may have stemmed from the abrupt change of water usage whenever a client, who used to pay the flat rate, has been charged based on meter reading.
Warren said CUC is now considering a new system that will discourage disputes from customers.
