Tawanpiy posted a net of 69 last April 10 and outshined all RGA competitors vying for his seat last Saturday at the Coral Ocean Point golf course during the Refaluwasch Golf Association’s Ace of April tournament.
Jesse Seman drove the ball with all his might and power and complete accuracy tying with Tawanpiy’s 69 net.
“This was still no good because according to the ground rules the point of the Ace of April tournament was to beat the score,” explained RGA’s Jesse Wabol in an interview with the Marianas Variety.
“Tying would only mean that the top score in the qualifier’s competition stands,” Wabol further explained.
Seman scored 38 in the front holes, 38 in the back holes and grossed a total of 76; with the handicap, he netted a final 69.
Adam Hardwicke had a tougher time edging past Joe Saures after tying their original net at 73 all. Hardwicke and Saures then used the hole by hole play offs to determine who takes second place for the monthly tournament.
Hardwicke and Saures tied in both the front and back holes. Because of the rules for the hole by hole play offs both competitors started on hole no. 18 backwards to determine the better competitor from the couple.
In this method Hardwicke came out victorious with a net of 40 edging past Saures’ 43 to clinch the second place seat of the tournament.
Carl Hocog and Jesse Wabol each garnered a Closest-to-the Pin award on hole no. 7 for the former and hole no.14 for the latter.
Seman will have another chance to beat Tawanpiy in the upcoming May qualifiers scheduled on May 4 at the Marianas Country Club.
Other competitors from the pool of RGA competitors include: Jesse Seman (69), Adam Hardwicke (73), Joes Saures (73), Ben Duenas (76), Carl Hocog (76), Ned Norita (77), Palik Thomson (78), Jesse Wabol (79), Manny Man Guerrero (79), Joe Lizama (79)Tars Olopai (80), Tom Tebuteb (82), Tony Rogolifoi (82), Ulysses Kapileo (83), and Joe Wabol (84).
