Their victory gave them a spot in the 2011 Thespian Festival that will be held at the University of Lincoln-Nebraska in June later this year.
The MHS Glee Club sang “Seasons of Love” from Broadway musical “Rent” while Kagman High School performed “He Lives in You (Reprise)” from the “Lion King.”
The winning team from MHS is composed of Mark Chester Gonzales, Matthew Lopez, Darren John Cajipo, Nikki Dela Cruz Canape, Richard Ken Matsuyama, Rolando Sangalang, Severino Alforeza III, Vinni Giovanni Orcini, Wincel Mae Bubos, Adrian Tangcoy, Donna Marie Monton, Dowen Mae Jocson, Gemmilie Eugenio, Kelly Tenorio Demapan, Kevin Jiro Matsuyama, and Mariel Ferrer.
Melissa Duffy, alternative education teacher and MHS Glee club advisor, said the MHS Glee Club has 21 members but only 16 were allowed for the competition.
Duffy said the club will also perform “Seasons of Love” at the Thespian Festival in June. The MHS Glee Club also brought home a trophy donated by Friends of the Arts, which will be passed on to every winning team in coming years.
FOA representative Frank Gibson commended all the students who worked hard for the competition. The judges were Friends of the Arts Paul Dujua, Allen Cuyugan, and Keri Uhl.
