On Friday, the cashier’s office was closed due to the judiciary’s partial shutdown in connection with the CNMI government’s austerity measures.
Only essential services are provided and minimal staff is designated to address docket requirements on austerity Friday, a statement from the judiciary stated.
“I thought the government needs money. They better cut down salaries for this mess. Compensate the brainy and not those doing nothing. This is stupid,” said a fuming woman as she stood in a long line.
She said she was supposed to pay for the renewal of her driver’s license, but the cashier’s office was closed on Friday.
Another woman said she waited for over 30 minutes before she was entertained by a staffer.
A man hurriedly left the building upon seeing the long line which started at 9 a.m.
When this reporter left the judiciary building, some 20 people were still in line.
