Since everybody is already aware that the government’s revenue projection is $120 million, or $12 million lower than the current budget, acting Gov. Eloy S. Inos said most of the agencies submitted lower budget requests except for the Public School System.
PSS, which had a $31 million budget in FY 2011, is requesting $36 million for the new fiscal year.
Inos said the administration will review all the budget submissions with the financial analysts of each department or agency.
In 30 days, he said the executive branch will transmit its proposed budget to the Legislature.
The agencies, he added, had to reduce their budget proposals because “we have to bring everybody in line with the overall budget — we have to submit a balance budget.”
However, Inos said, PSS is in a different situation.
“We’ve got teachers and we need to examine [the PSS request],” he added.
Payday today
In related news, Inos said non-critical government employees will get paid today.
The administration, he added, would like to see an end to the delays in payroll but although there is now a “steady in-flow of cash, we don’t expect any level of increase in cash flow.”
