Santos, Ind.-Rota, said Atalig has proven herself to be very successful in her academic undertakings.
Atalig participated in the Attorney General’s Cup speech competition, the Powerhouse Debates of the Junior Statesmen of America Program at Stanford University and, most recently, the mock trial competition of 2010.
“Atalig proved that her untiring dedication to her education leads to success as she garnered the ‘Most Effective Prosecution Attorney’ award in the mock trial competition of 2010,” the resolution stated.
Atalig is also actively involved in the Student Council, the Teen Talk Club and the Math Count Club.
A senior at Rota High School, she has also joined other academic competitions such as the National Junior Forensic League, the Academic Challenge Bowl and the Valentine Sengebau Poetry Competition.
“Atalig continues to maintain her commitment to school activities such as the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Program, Drama Class, Upward Bound Program, Student Body Council, the Close-Up Club, Junior Statesmen of America, and the Youth Advisory Panel which was established in 2009 as a forum that directly address challenges and issues of public school students,” Santos’ resolution stated.
Atalig attended Stanford University under the Junior Statesmen of America Program in the summer of 2010 — the only student representing Rota High School.
Aside from her scholastic activities, Atalig is also campaigning for the conservation and preservation of the natural ecosystem of Rota and has been actively involved in numerous road side cleanups and trash-a-thons.
“She is an advocate for the reef preservation on Rota,” Santos said, referring to Atalig.
