Robert wins vacant Ngaraard legislative seat

The special election  was held following the death of state legislator Tadashi Sakuma last month.

Final and official results obtained from the election commission showed that Robert garnered 212 votes or a margin of 40 votes over his nearest rival, Gale Ngirmidol, who obtained 172 votes.

They were followed by Lydia Ngirablosch who received 120 votes and John Mengidab who garnered 106.

The turnout for the special election for the vacant Ngaraard seat was pegged at more than 50 percent with 624 out of 1,198 registered voters in the state casting their ballots.

Maria Decherong, election commission administrative officer, said the result will be certified by their office on Feb. 20 or five days after the election.
