Filipino saint to be enthroned at Mt. Carmel Cathedral

Pacson’s group is coordinating the event in collaboration with the United Filipino Organizations.

“We will make this event a very historic one,” he told Variety.

He said the whole community  is invited to witness the once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

Chalan Kanoa Diocese apostolic administrator Fr. Ryan P. Jimenez, the clergy of the diocese,  Philippine consulate staff headed by Consul General Medardo Macaraig, CNMI government officials and community members will attend the event.

”We would like to introduce St. Lorenzo Ruiz to all the faithful of the diocese and eventually to the whole world,” Pacson said.

Lorenzo Ruiz (1600-1637), also known as San Lorenzo de Manila, was beatified on Feb. 18, 1981 and was declared saint on Oct. 18, 1987.

Born in Manila to a Chinese father and a Filipino mother, Ruiz was martyred as a missionary during the persecution of Japanese Christians in the 17th century.

Pacson said the cathedral has devoted three Sundays in introducing the saint to  churchgoers prior to the enthronement.

St. Lorenzo has already been enthroned at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral on Guam.

Pacson said after the enthronement and Mass on Sunday, lunch will be served at the Joeten-Daidai social hall of the diocese.

He said souvenir t-shirts will be sold at an affordable price by the Saipan Simbang Gabi coordinators.
