Travel writers say NMI needs more web exposure

Traveling couple John and Sandra Scott, who maintain weekly and monthly travel columns in various newspapers in the U.S., said before coming here, they browsed the internet for information on what the place has to offer.

“In these times, everybody turns to the internet for information and it was very hard to find articles and information that independent travelers like us could use as reference about the CNMI, aside from the very technical ones,” Sandra Scott said.

She said it is different for travelers who come with packaged tours because everything is arranged for them from the minute they wake up until they go to bed at night.

“We always travel on our own and we can use the experiences of other people who have been there as guides,” she added.

She said  people usually love to read about first-hand adventures in new places.

John Scott said they were surprised to learn about historical and cultural attractions of Saipan and Tinian, but very little information about them can be found online

“In these times where almost everybody has access to the internet, bloggers can be a big help to provide reviews on places they have been, food they have eaten and attractions, culture and traditions they have experienced in every place to encourage others to come for a visit,” John Scott said.

“We wanted to stay longer than the two weeks that we spent here, but we plan to come back. We haven’t been to Rota yet,” he added.

The Scotts have been traveling and writing about travel since the 1980s. Both are members of the North American Travel Journalists Association.
