John Baldwin, a principal and CEO of Bridge Capital, enjoys all forms of the arts, including theater and fine arts. He was very impressed with the response to last year’s art competition in the quantity and quality of the entries submitted and overall enthusiasm and participation of CNMI artists, both young and old.
Last year’s grand prize winner of $2,500, Ross B. Wood, had this to say regarding the art competition:
“Art is good for community in more ways than I can mention. In youth it offers much needed opportunities for inspiration, self-reflection and realization. It develops habits of attention to detail, ‘seeing’ multiple perspectives, and skill building on a myriad of levels. Art events are a paramount opportunity for building community and sharing meaningful discourse. I firmly believe art is one of the greatest gifts a person can share and has the capacity to make change on the most elemental of levels. Art competitions, like the one organized by Bridge Capital are the best art advocacy there is. It encourages, builds, and honors art making and community. I wish more businesses would follow the example Bridge Capital has set in offering opportunities for artists of all ages. I highly recommend all participate in whichever capacity they can. I have not seen such a comprehensive gathering of talent and fine art works in any other event or venue in the entire CNMI as I found at the First Annual Bridge Capital Art Competition. I imagine this year will only be better.”
The competition is open to 2-D and 3-D artwork. The deadline for submitting entries is 5 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2011.
