Bridge Capital’s Lisa Frederickson told the Variety yesterday that they had been receiving several inquiries from local artists for the past week.
She said artists were already working on their pieces, hoping to win awards.
The deadline for submission is May 2, 2011.
In a statement sent through e-mail, Bridge Capital’s contest organizers said last year’s winner, CNMI Museum executive director Robert Hunter, has already formulated ideas for a painting that he will submit as soon as he read the news about the competition.
“The Bridge Capital art competition has become the most significant competition of the year. There is simply no competition like it happening. It provides much needed support and encouragement to our resident artists,” Hunter said.
The contest is open to all students of public and private schools.
Last year’s art contest brought together an impressive collection of various forms of artwork from professionals and students. Pieces of 2-D and 3-D artwork are accepted for submission.
Frederickson said the judging will take place after the deadline of submission and winners will be notified. Winners and their families will also be invited to the awards presentation and art exhibition on May 7, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m.
