Jamin Elliot from Whispering Palms School topped the male 8 years and under 400m dash after clocking in at 1:27:93 followed by schoolmates Naoki Kasai and Blake Mister at 1:33:33 and 1:47:76.
In the female 8 and under division JinJu Thompson crushed her other opponents after finishing strong with 1:46:97. Su Bin Do did not come in after 11 seconds of Thompson’s record at 1:57:28 while third place finisher River Kramer completed the race after 2:16:71.
For the 10 and under division Logan Mister shined after defeating schoolmates Erik Kim and Cole Chambers at 1:27:93. Kim defeated Chambers by four seconds, 1:38:59 after sprinting the last 100 meters; Chambers clocked in at 1:43:27.
In the female category Joshalyn Flores posted the fastest time overall time the 10 and under division at 1:24:59. Coming in after Flores was Whispering Palms’ Amber Montenegro at 1:33:89 and then Hana Nelson at 1:35:53.
In the 12 and under division Elnathan Wong crossed the finish line first with the best time of 1:18:08 followed by William Johnson and Morris Villanueva at 1:26:20 and 1:27:00 respectively.
Manzanita Moore refused to be left behind and she too pushed strong towards the finish line and finishing first at 1:24:65. Schoolmate Suah Cho did not come in until four seconds past Moore’s record placing herself in second followed by Maile Aldrich who crossed the finish line at 1:32:59.
In the last event of the day the crowd was sent in a cheering uproar as more than six competitors took on the grueling 3000m dash an equivalence of more than seven laps around the track and field portion of the Oleai Sports Complex.
All participants started out with a comfortable pace building in the last two-three laps of the qualifier. The seven laps did nit faze Whispering Palm’s John Auther posting the fastest time at 13:16:37 crushing running mate Logan Mister who clocked in at 14:53:38.
Third place seeder Tammy Ackerman was the lone female finisher after Suah Cho sprained her ankle upon completing her second lap. Ackerman finished the grueling race at 13:59:50.
Ackerman was undoubtedly the fastest competitor during the competition until Auther caught up with her in the fourth lap. Auther then broke away from Ackerman by stepping his speed up a notch in the last 200 meters of the lap to leave her behind.
NMA continues to host these events to search for eligible competitors for the All Schools meet that is scheduled to kick off on May 6 and 7. Competitors are allowed to join a total of four events. The top three finishers of the All Schools meet will get medals while the top three schools in the respective age groups will be awarded trophies.
Because the Public School System has declared no classes for yesterday and today, due to Professional Development Day, NMA has scheduled to move the junior high and high school events to this Saturday.
