Economic restoration summit set for March 22-23

Inos said of the summit, “The ERS of 2011 will help bring together important components of our economy to continue infrastructure planning that has been initiated through the Commonwealth Economic Development Strategic Plan. The community’s participation in the ERS is fundamental to the planning needed to evolve the CEDS Plan and pave a path for the economy.”

The summit will be a two-day event taking place on March 22 and 23 on Saipan.

This year’s summit will include guest presentations for specific industries that had been identified in the first summit in 2009. Those industries include agriculture, aquaculture, tourism, and call and data centers.

The second summit serves as a follow up to the viability of those industries previously identified.

Acting Secretary Sixto K. Igisomar for the Department of Commerce remarked: “The summit of 2011 will bring together the people who have or want a stake in our economy and be the center of economic development that has occurred since the first ERS. There are many voices that need to be heard and this summit will help to unify our economic goals so that we speak as one commonwealth.”

The first day of the Summit will include presentations from resident practitioners and industry experts.

Attendees are encouraged to participate in discussions following the presentations by asking questions and offering comments and recommendations.

The second day of the summit will allow participants to break away into individual industry groups to develop a specific plan of action to determine industry viability and needs for future growth and development. The second day will conclude with group presentations of the findings of each industry breakout session.

More information on this year’s summit will be forthcoming. Email any questions or comments to [email protected].
