Lawyer: Ex-guard’s trial to last at least two weeks

Fitial is accused of forcing three female wards to engage in sexual acts with him and his trial will push through as scheduled on April 18 with a yet to be designated judge presiding over the case.

The seven-day pretrial conference is set for April 11.

Attorney Joseph James Norita Camacho said his 25-year-old client, who has also been charged for the same case in the local trial court, is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is bringing to the witness stand some medical child specialists and other experts.

Fitial was arrested last year by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on the charge that he had sex with the 13-year-old victim and engaged in sexual acts with two other minors.

All of the victims were then detainees at the juvenile detention facility in Kagman, which partly gets funding from the federal government.

Camacho did not say if the defense will also bring an expert witness to the stand.

“I cannot disclose that,” he told the Variety.

Fitial has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
