Ben Duenas
BEN Duenas shot a two-day net total of 135 — eight strokes ahead of the competition — to claim the Amigos Golf Club’s April Ace of the Month title on the east course of Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
The unpredictable weather made the course conditions both easy and difficult. Spirits were high, competition was fierce, but when it came down to execution and consistency, Duenas was unmatched.
In the qualifying round on April 6, the veteran golfer picked his shots carefully and finished with a soft touch to notch a gross score of 77. With a handicap of 14, his net score was an impressive 63.
Fast forward three weeks to the ace round held last Sunday. The pressure was on, and the course conditions proved to be a huge factor for Duenas, as well as for the rest of the competition, with Joe Sasamoto, Dung Tenorio, and Syl Ada also in contention.
Duenas kept his cool and despite a gross score of 86, his handicap gave him a net score of 72 for a two-day net score of 135. It was more than enough to secure first place and claim the April Ace of the Month.
As for the optional play winners, making the list in the Par 3 category were Joe Sasamoto for hole #3, Jay Muna for hole #7, Freddy Salavaria for hole #13, and Syl Ada for hole #17. A $120 prize was awarded for each hole.
The May Ace of the Month qualifier round will be held this Sunday, May 4, on the west course of Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
