Mabubuhur Kosam Rahaman is escorted by a Corrections officer for a bail hearing in Superior Court on Thursday morning.
MABUBUHUR Kosam Rahaman, 33, was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly punching his 4-year-old son in the mouth and throwing him to the ground at their home.
Rahaman was charged with child abuse, assault and battery with domestic violence, and disturbing the peace. Following a bail hearing Thursday, Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho set a $10,000 cash bail for Rahaman’s release and remanded him to the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Assistant Public Defender Molly Dennert was appointed to represent Rahaman, while Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government.
According to the complaint, Rahaman’s girlfriend told police that on Tuesday, while walking to her mother’s house with the children’s grandmother and her three sons, her 4-year-old son stopped and spat out blood.
When asked what happened, the boy said, “Daddy punched me and threw me to the ground.”
The boy’s grandmother called police, and medics later transported the child to the hospital emergency room. A crime scene technician documented the child’s injuries, and the Division of Youth Services–Child Protective Services also responded.
While interviewing the mother and child, investigators observed that the boy’s upper lip was slightly swollen and that he had a small cut on the inside of his lower lip. They also noted redness on his chest.
Rahaman told police, “My son? He fell to the ground. I did not hit him. I pushed him, but it was by accident, which is why he fell to the ground and his mouth bled.”
He was arrested the same day and transported to the Department of Corrections facility.
