MARIANAS High School is off to a strong start in the PSS-NMISA Interscholastic Fastpitch Softball League SY25-26, notching their first win of the season against Mount Carmel School, 15-8, at the Dandan ballfield on Saturday.
MHS set the tone in the opening inning with a strong defensive stand, allowing MCS only one hit before retiring the side. In the bottom half, the Dolphins carried the momentum to the plate, connecting on a flurry of hits. More than half of the lineup recorded RBIs — including Jequinn Lizama, Tyrese Monkeya, and Kayven Cruz — giving MHS a 6-0 lead after one inning.
The Knights broke the silence in the second inning when Elijah Dela Cruz drove in Jayson Tagabuel with an RBI single. But MHS answered with two runs in the bottom frame to stay comfortably ahead, 8-1.
Through the third and fourth innings, MCS could only scratch across one run, while MHS piled on the offense — adding one in the third and six more in the fourth to extend their lead to 15-2.
With their backs against the wall, MCS staged a late rally, plating six runs in the top of the fifth. But time ran out as the 90-minute limit expired, and MHS held on for a 15-8 victory.
Joining the winners’ circle were their younger counterparts, the MHS JV squad, who edged Saipan Southern High School JV in a thriller, 10-9, to also secure their first win of the season.
