‘Muscle Memory: Mastering Best Practices of Financial Record and Bookkeeping’

(CNMI SBDC) — The CNMI Small Business Development Center Network at Northern Marianas College is excited to continue in its introduction of its industry leaders lineup for the upcoming Women’s Entrepreneurship Project training series, “Fiscal Fitness: Improving Financial Health for Women in Business.” The three-day series will take place from October 20 to 22, 2025 at the NMC Innovation Incubator Office located at the Beach Road Plaza commercial building in Garapan, Saipan.

Day Two’s session titled “Muscle Memory: Mastering Best Practices of Financial Record and Bookkeeping,” will feature David Burger, CPA. A seasoned certified public accountant and managing partner at Burger, Comer and Associates. Burger brings decades of experience serving clients throughout the Marianas region. He began his career with KPMG Peat Marwick, where he rose to partner before establishing his own firm in the mid-1990s. He has also served as acting chairman of the CNMI Board of Accountancy, and continues to play an active role in promoting sound accounting practices and financial management in the region.

Participants of WEP’s fifth cohort participants will gain a clearer understanding of:

• Basics of recordkeeping

• Reading & understanding financial statements

• Best invoicing practices

• BGRTs for sole proprietors

• Filing taxes as a sole prop vs an LLC

• Fundamentals of filing taxes with IRS for sole proprietors

The CNMI SBDC Network has had the privilege of working with Burger on several initiatives, most recently during the Veterans Business Outreach Center’s Boots to Business training, where he provided veterans and transitioning service members with valuable insights into tax compliance and small business financial planning. His ability to connect professional accounting principles to the everyday realities of local entrepreneurs has made him one of the SBDC Network’s most trusted collaborators.

“Dave has a unique way of turning what can be intimidating financial concepts into simple, actionable strategies,” said CNMI SBDC Network Director Nadine Deleon Guerrero Kintol. “He understands the challenges small business owners face, and his approach helps entrepreneurs build confidence, clarity, and discipline in managing their financial health. We’re grateful to have him onboard as one of our most trusted experts in his field.”

The CNMI SBDC will feature a strong lineup of presenters for the incoming cohort, and seating will be limited to 16 participants this year. Registration for this year’s incoming cohort has reached maximum capacity. To achieve an optimal learning event for all registered clients, the three-day training event will be an age 18 or older event. Attendees must be registered CNMI SBDC clients. A Certificate of Completion will be issued to those with perfect attendance for all sessions. Participants may attend individual sessions, but will not receive a certificate unless all sessions are completed.

Existing or future SBDC clients may call the Lead Center office at (670) 237-6888 for more registration information or email cnmisbdc@marianas.edu/.
