Tinian Pika Lions Club brings new energy to island service

TINIAN (TPLC) — Less than two months after its establishment, the Tinian Pika Lions Club, District 204  is already making waves through hands-on service and a strong commitment to community.

Officially established on Aug. 27, 2025, the club will celebrate its Charter Night and Installation of Club Charter Officers and Members on Nov. 15, but its members could not wait to get started. True to the Lions Clubs International motto, “We Serve,” members have been involved in many projects that support both people and the island environment.

The club’s name, “Pika,” is a nod to the energy and passion its members bring to their work.  It draws inspiration from the donne sali, the famous fiery pepper native to Tinian, known to be the hottest in the region, if not the world. Just like the donne sali, TPLC is small but full of heat and passion. The logo also features a handshake and the Lions emblem that reflects unity, respect, and purpose.

Since its founding, TPLC has hit the ground running. On Sept. 6, members attended a Lions Clubs International orientation led by 2nd Vice District Governor Lion Mar Villegas Masilungan, followed by their first general membership meeting on Sept. 12 to map out goals for the year ahead.

Later that month, the club teamed up with Black Micro Corp. for a beach cleanup at Lazarino Beach, part of the 2025 International Coastal Cleanup campaign organized by the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality. Volunteers cleared debris, trimmed grass overgrowth, and helped reopen beach paths, showing pride in keeping Tinian’s natural spaces clean and accessible.

In line with the Lions Clubs International service initiative to promote awareness on Mental Health and Well-being from Oct. 4-12, 2025, TPLC hosted a community talk on Oct. 9 featuring guest speakers Joyce Flores of CHCC’s Community Guidance Center and Mary Ann Dela Cruz, a counselor at Tinian’s Middle School and High School. The event highlighted local mental health resources and the importance of open conversations. A Zumba Night on Oct. 12, co-hosted with the Anti-Tobacco Wellness Program, added a fun, active spin to the week.

“Our vision is to build a club grounded on service, strength, courage, and fidelity,” said Club President Lion Rodney S. Cabarles. “Through unity and action, we aim to make a real difference in our community.”

New to the Lions Clubs International network but rooted in local values, the Tinian Pika Lions Club is already proving that small groups with big hearts can drive real change.
