EUCON, Saipan mayor discuss investment, local scholarships

(EUCON) – EUCON International University President Dr. Christian Wei and Associate Terry Lau recently met with the Mayor of Saipan to discuss a unified strategy for strengthening the island’s economy, empowering residents, and expanding long-term investment opportunities across the CNMI.

The meeting focused on EUCON’s major development initiatives, including the University Town Project, the Golf Management Program, and several new investment partnerships currently under negotiation. As EUCON continues to expand its academic programs and industry collaborations, the university is positioning Saipan as a growing hub for education, business, and economic diversification.

Collaborative strategy

During the meeting, Associate Terry Lau, who oversees financing and investor relations for EUCON, shared ongoing efforts to introduce new investors from Asia and the United States. These investors are exploring opportunities in education, technology, real estate, tourism, and advanced industry development—initiatives that will contribute to the economic transformation of the CNMI.

The Mayor’s Office expressed strong support for collaborating with EUCON to develop responsible, long-term investments that benefit the community and open doors for future growth.

Advancing the Indigenous Scholarship Initiative

A key highlight of the discussion was the mayor’s preliminary agreement to work with EUCON on expanding the Indigenous Scholarship Initiative, a three-tier educational program designed to uplift the next generation of CNMI leaders:

    1. Graduate Level (MBA & Master’s Degrees) is focused on building professional leaders in business, finance, management, and public service.
    2. Undergraduate Level (Bachelor’s Degrees) will provide local students access to U.S.-accredited university education without leaving the island.
    3. K–12 Opportunities (High School, Middle School, Elementary) prepares indigenous students through strong early education pathways that lead to college and career success.
Together, EUCON and the Mayor’s Office aim to increase access to higher education for local families, strengthen workforce development, and encourage young people to study, work, and build their future in Saipan.

    Vision for growth

EUCON emphasized that its University Town Project, combined with new investment partnerships, will create jobs, stimulate local businesses, and establish Saipan as a destination for international education and innovation. The Mayor reaffirmed the city’s commitment to collaborate on projects that support economic diversification—especially through attracting investment capital from Asia and designing new financial pathways for long-term growth.

Dr. Christian Wei stated, “EUCON’s mission has always been to serve the people of the CNMI. By partnering with the Mayor’s Office, we are building a foundation that strengthens education, brings new investments, and ensures Saipan’s economy grows in a balanced, sustainable, and community-centered way.”

Associate Terry Lau added, “We are working with investors who believe in Saipan’s potential. This is an opportunity for the community to rise together as we bring new industries, new jobs, and new hope to the island.”

EUCON invites community members, local leaders, and CNMI families to support the University Town Project, the Indigenous Scholarship Initiative, and the incoming wave of responsible investment. These efforts will help create a vibrant academic environment, a stronger workforce, and a more diversified economy—benefiting Saipan for generations to come.
