Creative West to host grant workshop for artists on Saipan

REPRESENTATIVES from Creative West, a regional arts nonprofit organization that serves far-reaching parts of the U.S., will be on Saipan on April 23 to host an information session and mini-grant writing workshop at Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.

The workshop will discuss the Pacific Jurisdictions Artist Fund, which, according to a news release, is a “new grant program providing unrestricted support to artists and cultural practitioners across the islands.”

Creative West invites the participation of artists working in all forms: visual arts, dance, tattooing, weaving, music, storytelling, performance, healing, language, and more.

Participants will learn what the fund is, and how it works in the Marianas. Creative West aims to have Pacific Islander input to ensure the funds “[reflect] the unique strengths, needs, and values of each island community.”

Lunch or dinner will be provided for participants. A workshop time has yet to be finalized.

Anika Tene, Creative West director of grants, awards, and programs, said the fund is being developed in close collaboration with artists and cultural leaders in American Samoa, Guam, and the CNMI.

“These gatherings are an essential part of the co-design process, and we look forward to shaping this initiative together with community input,” she said.
