NORTHERN Islands Mayor Valentino N. Taisacan Jr. is asking the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation to fund the construction of his office on the volcanic island of Pagan.
In his letter to the SNILD chairman, Rep. John Paul Sablan, Taisacan said he and his team will be traveling to Pagan to initiate a “crucial renovation” and the construction of a new office, “which will play a vital role in our local governance.”
The mayor said the structure, measuring 16 feet by 20 feet, will serve as a central hub for local governance, allowing his office to better coordinate community activities and initiatives.
He “envisions a space that fosters collaboration and communication among local leaders and citizens.”
In addition, Taisacan said “there exists an urgent need to address the roofing conditions of an existing water tank that requires substantial repairs.”
He said it is “imperative to secure a functional roof for the water tank because it’s vital for the tank’s capacity to efficiently collect and store [fresh water]. This consideration is especially important during the dry season when water availability is limited and the residents of the island depend significantly on such source for their daily needs.”
The mayor provided Sablan with a price quotation of $14,182 for construction materials. This amount covers both the mayor’s office construction and the water tank roof.
“Our organization is committed to transparency and accountability in the allocation and utilization of the funds,” the mayor said, as he promised to provide the SNILD periodic updates on the progress of the two projects to ensure that the funds are spent in accordance with the objectives.
