Governor discusses strategic partnership between Korea University and NMC

(Office of the Governor) — On Jan. 15, Gov. David M. Apatang hosted a high-level delegation from Korea University, led by Chairman Changduk Jung, Ph.D., to discuss a transformative partnership aimed at expanding educational opportunities and bolstering the Commonwealth’s burgeoning educational tourism sector.

The meeting focused on establishing a formal sister university relationship between Korea University, one of South Korea’s most prestigious institutions, and Northern Marianas College. This collaboration marks a significant step toward making the CNMI a premier destination for international students and academic exchange.

“Our administration is committed to opening new doors for our students while diversifying our economy,” Governor Apatang said. “By partnering with an institution of Korea University’s caliber, we are not only elevating the academic standing of NMC but also positioning the CNMI as a hub for educational excellence in the Pacific.”

The Office of the Governor, in close coordination with Northern Marianas College leadership, will continue technical and strategic discussions in the coming months to advance this partnership toward formalization.
