ALTHOUGH the Ace of Aces was the main highlight of the Amigos Golf Club’s 2025 season, the annual Amigos Cup gave members another chance to become champion. This year, Nick Leon Guerrero etched his name into the history books once again, clinching a spectacular back-to-back championship with a massive total of 2,869 points, announced at the awards banquet held Saturday at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan.

The Amigos Cup tournament, spearheaded by member Peter “Dung” Tenorio, is recognized for its unique format. Much like the prestigious FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour, the Amigos Cup operates on a point system where every game matters. Players earn points based on their net scores in two types of rounds: Qualifier rounds and Ace rounds. Crucially, Ace rounds carry double the weight of Qualifiers, and consistent participation is key — missing a game can significantly impact a player’s final standing.

This system, in place since 2022, is designed to reward not just skill, but unwavering commitment to the game.

While the leaderboard saw fierce competition throughout the season, Leon Guerrero’s path to his second consecutive trophy was defined by his love for the game, highlighted by remarkable consistency and a competitive mentality that left his rivals chasing shadows.

Leon Guerrero’s victory was not about one lucky round, but about showing up and delivering month after month. Missing only a single game all season, he posted a staggering string of scores in the low 70s, punctuated by a season-best 66.

By taking top honors in both the August Qualifier and the October Ace — recording nine birdies and six KPs (closest to the pin) — Leon Guerrero showcased his precision on approach and secured the Amigos Cup title for the second straight season.

Settling for second place was Jay Muna, who finished just 33 points behind the champion with a total of 2,836 points.

Muna was arguably the most explosive player of the tournament, racking up 48 birdies and three eagles, ranking first in the July and November qualifiers, and missing only one game. However, Leon Guerrero’s steady hand in the qualifying rounds ultimately provided the cushion needed to stay ahead.

Joe Sasamoto finished third with a total of 2,643 points despite recording three first-place finishes, 44 birdies, and nine KPs.

Rounding out the top five were Peter Tenorio with 2,601 points and Nick Reyes with 2,497 points.
