THE Senate on Thursday confirmed the nominations of Dave Guerrero and Mike Evangelista to the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents.
All eight senators voted to adopt the standing committee reports recommending the confirmations. Sen. Celina R. Babauta was excused, while Senate Vice President Corina Magofna and Sen. Ronnie Calvo attended via videoconference.
Guerrero will represent the Third Senatorial District and the private sector, while Evangelista will represent the Carolinian community and the private sector.
Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations Chair Sen. Frank Q. Cruz said the committee examined all pertinent documents related to the nominees’ appointments. Based on an overall assessment of their credentials, testimonies, and other relevant factors, the committee recommended their confirmation.
Nominated by Gov. David M. Apatang, Guerrero, a former member of the Commonwealth Economic Development Authority, and Evangelista, a lawyer and member of the Zoning Board, pledged during the public hearing to ensure that NMC remains an accessible, affordable, and high-quality “beacon of hope” for the CNMI.
