



(Office of the CNMI Governor) — Acting Gov. Dennis James C. Mendiola met with Maj. Gen. Thomas M. Sherman, commander of the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, along with other senior military leaders, to engage in discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration and enhancing a mutually beneficial partnership between the ongoing military buildup and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
The meeting focused on expanding opportunities for local CNMI vendors to participate in military-related projects, with an emphasis on supporting local businesses and promoting sustainable economic development across the Commonwealth. Participants discussed ways to improve access, capacity- building, and coordination to ensure CNMI businesses are well-positioned to engage in procurement and contracting opportunities tied to military investments.
Discussions also explored how the Department of Defense can support initiatives that align with national defense priorities while advancing infrastructure development, workforce readiness, and long- term economic sustainability in the CNMI. Both parties underscored the importance of ensuring that military investments generate shared benefits for local communities and contribute positively to the Commonwealth’s economic future.
Acting Governor Mendiola emphasized the CNMI administration’s commitment to fostering transparent, collaborative partnerships that respect local priorities and create lasting opportunities for residents. Military leaders reaffirmed their interest in continued engagement with the CNMI government and local stakeholders to identify practical pathways for cooperation and mutual growth.
