THE House Ways and Means Committee last week adopted two measures proposing to appropriate $300,000 in Commonwealth Economic Development Authority  dividends collected from the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation to fund projects in the First and Second Senatorial Districts.

House Bill 24-89, to appropriate CEDA funds for Tinian projects, is authored by Rep. Patrick San Nicolas, while H.B. 24-91, to appropriate CEDA funds for Rota projects, is authored by Rep. Julie Marie Ogo.

Prior to the roll call vote, the committee’s vice chair, Rep. Blas Jonathan Attao, offered substitute versions allowing the legislative delegations of Tinian and Rota to adopt resolutions to distribute the CEDA funds for projects, rather than specifying individual infrastructure projects as originally drafted.

The committee unanimously adopted the substitute bills before approving them to be recommended through committee report for passage by the full House.

Ogo noted that in Rota, the municipality explored funding sources to improve infrastructure for residents and visitors, including beach pavilions, restrooms, and youth sports facilities.

Both bills are now pending in the Senate for further action.
