THE two occupants of a sedan that ended up in the Saipan lagoon across from Gold Beach Hotel late Monday afternoon, following an auto runoff incident, were uninjured, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Driven by a 38-year-old man, a green Toyota Corolla swerved off Beach Road and into the lagoon. A video of the incident circulated on social media shortly afterward.
Assistant Chief of Police Simon T. Manacop said the vehicle was traveling south when the male operator “experienced issues with the wheel.”
“The driver claims he tried to correct the issue by turning the wheel to the right but ended up running the car off the road and into the water,” Manacop added.
