Tania Tan rounds a turn in the women’s 1-mile event at the NYRR Night at the Races 5 at the Armory Track in New York on Thursday.
TANIA Tan reached her second milestone of the year Thursday, setting a new NMI record in the 1-mile event during the NYRR Night at the Races 5 at the Armory Track in New York.
Last month, the 23-year-old set a new NMI record with a time of 5:22.51 during the NYRR Night at the Races 4. This time, by maintaining a consistent pace throughout the 1-mile race, she broke her own record, setting a new personal best and NMI record of 5:20.22
“I’m obviously happy to have set a new PR, but also a new NMI record,” she said in an interview with Variety. She did not achieve her personal goal of sub-5:20, “but a PR is still a PR regardless, and I can’t be mad or sad about it,” she added.
Tan said she felt calm throughout the day. “The race was at night at 7 p.m. so I had the whole day to just chill and relax, which was nice. I also had work throughout the day, so I think that helped me to not think about the race that much and to keep my mind off of it a bit,” she said.
As always, Tan is grateful for another opportunity to race —especially on an indoor track, as she doesn’t often compete indoors. “It’s been a fun few indoor races, and I’ve learned a lot from each one,” she added.
