THE Commonwealth Utilities Corporation board of directors on Thursday recognized Janice Tenorio’s leadership and dedicated service to CUC.
Tenorio served on the CUC board from March 2021 to October 2022, and was its chairwoman from October 2022 to March 2025.
Tenorio’s term will end on Tuesday, March 11. CUC board member Allen Perez will serve as acting chairman until a new board member is appointed and sworn in, and the board is reorganized.
Noting her contributions to CUC, its board and management presented Tenorio with a service recognition plaque.
“Her unwavering support for CUC management and staff has fostered growth and development within the organization. She has worked closely alongside the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, providing prudent guidance and strategic oversight to strengthen the institution and its ability to serve the public,” the recognition plaque stated.
“Chairwoman Tenorio has been a steadfast advocate for workforce development and employee well-being, ensuring that CUC continues to invest in the growth and support of its dedicated employees, who are critical to the corporation’s success,” it added.
Besides Perez, CUC board members Donald Browne, Rebecca White, Rufo Mafnas, Simon Sanchez, Miranda Manglona, and Francisco Rabauliman, along with CUC Executive Director Kevin Watson, signed the plaque of recognition.
Watson, in a statement, said, “We’ve come a long way under her leadership, and we hope to carry her legacy going forward.”
Tenorio, for her part, said, “Right now CUC’s priority is the privatization of its renewable energy plan.”
During her term, the CUC board passed a compensation reclassification for CUC employees. “They deserve it — they are all hardworking people,” she said. “I want to thank each one of them, most especially their families…. They leave their families during the wee hours of the night for emergency outage, sewage overflow, and water leaks — they are all dedicated.”
She said her “passion is helping people and promoting personal growth for all our employees across the CNMI government, including autonomous agencies, and I am just very fortunate to be given this opportunity.”
Tenorio is IT&E’s senior manager for customer service and government relations. She is also a Saipan Chamber of Commerce board member, and a former two-term member of the Board of Education.
