Saipan Mayor RB Camacho poses for a photo with Saipan tire shop owners during a recent meeting.
MAYOR of Saipan Ramon “RB” Camacho met with the owners, managers, and representatives of Saipan’s various tire shops at his office to discuss the topic of illegal tire dumping.
The issue of discarded tires illegally dumped in various areas around Saipan has been getting noticeable attention as of late. The mayor wished to call a meeting of the islands tire vendors to discuss ways in implementing proactive measures to address illegal dumping and to ensure our businesses do not end up on the wrong side of the law.
The mayor cautioned the businesses to be mindful of who they contract out to dispose of old tires and those who wish to procure them. Although not wishing to turn away those seeking to reuse old tires, the mayor advised business to keep a record book of who is procuring their old tires and other goods.
Camacho also informed them on several of the different laws and enforcement procedures regarding illegal dumping. He emphasized his wish not to see any of our tire shops become entangled with illegal activity.
The mayor expressed his commitment to continue to work with businesses in regards to issues affecting the community and keeping our environment clean and safe for all.
