JUST in time, many Saipan residents were filling their car tanks with gasoline in preparation for the approaching Typhoon Sinlaku as fuel prices dropped for the second time late last week.

From $6.51 a gallon, the price of Mobil Oil’s regular gasoline fell to $6.31 a gallon on Friday. Its Supreme gasoline price dropped to $6.76 a gallon from $6.96, while diesel fell to $8.83 a gallon from $9.53.

Shell Marianas followed suit.

Tinian Fuel Services’ regular gasoline price on Sunday was $8.64 a gallon, while diesel was priced at $11.94 a gallon.

While motorists lined up for gas on Sunday in anticipation of possible power outages once Typhoon Sinlaku arrives, security guard Bong Salasbar was busy securing his home and was unable to go to a gas station to fill his tank. He said his vehicle requires about $50 worth of fuel.

After a series of hikes over the past few weeks, fuel prices began falling last week as hopes rose amid peace negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
