IN a landmark meeting on March 5, 2025, EUCON International University’s leadership, including founder and president Dr. Christian Wei and partner Daniel Xu, engaged with key CNMI government officials to discuss an ambitious Saipan EUCON Silicon Valley Project. The EUCON officials met with Gov. Arnold Palacios, Sen. Corina Magofna, Rep. John Paul Sablan, and Commonwealth Economic Development Authority Chair Francisco Rabauliman. The discussions yielded promising outcomes, underscoring the project’s potential to transform Saipan’s economic landscape.
Project significance
The Saipan EUCON Silicon Valley Project aims to position Saipan as a hub for technology, education, and economic development, drawing parallels to the innovation-driven economy of California’s Silicon Valley. By fostering a conducive environment for tech startups, research institutions, and educational programs, the initiative seeks to diversify the local economy, create high-paying jobs, and attract global investors.
Leadership and vision
Dr. Christian Wei, a visionary leader with dual doctorates in theology and education, has been instrumental in promoting education and economic growth in the CNMI. His initiatives, including the Saipan University Town project, have laid the foundation for this new venture. Dr. Wei’s commitment to “Make CNMI Great Again” reflects his dedication to uplifting the community through strategic development.
Partnering with Dr. Wei is Daniel Xu, a distinguished professional with a multifaceted background. As the first Chinese overseas student to pass the PGA professional golf qualification and a certified coach by the United States Golf Teachers Federation, Xu brings a unique blend of sports and business acumen. His experience includes roles as a venture partner at DFJ Dragon Fund and managing director at Star Bridge Capital, LLC, where he co-managed significant investment funds focused on high-tech companies in the U.S. and China. Xu’s expertise will be pivotal in attracting investors and designing projects tailored to Saipan’s unique context.
Educational initiatives
EUCON International University is set to launch a golf school in July, spearheaded by Daniel Xu. This initiative aims to revitalize local golf courses and promote sports tourism. Additionally, EIU has received accreditation from the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools to offer a Bachelor of Business Administration or BBA degree. Plans are underway to introduce a BBA with a concentration in Golf Management, with Xu serving as the department head. Collaborations with international universities are also in progress to establish 2+2 programs, allowing students to split their studies between institutions. The golf management program is slated to commence in September.
Call to action
Dr. Wei extends an invitation to all CNMI residents to participate in the “Make CNMI Great Again” movement. “We need everyone’s involvement to realize the full potential of the Saipan EUCON Silicon Valley Project,” he emphasized.
Community engagement is crucial to the project’s success, and EIU welcomes ideas, support, and collaboration from all sectors.
